This lively documentary by Juru and Vitã takes us through the vibrant ballroom culture of Rio de Janeiro. Through the influence of the afround Latin-American LGBTQAI+ subculture of the USA, where Ballroom has its origins, and Brazilian elements from various regions, a cultural cuvée has developed that continues to mature like a fine wine. There, dance, music, fashion and performance intertwine and lead to a kind of catharsis for marginalized queer and racialized communities. "We portray our community as a place of gathering and celebration, but also as a space where conflict can be resolved." THIS IS BALLROOM celebrates its German premiere in Cologne.
