Alithea Binnie is in Istanbul for a conference. She buys a small bottle for herself at a bazaar. When she cleans it at the hotel, a djinni springs from it and immediately offers her three wishes in exchange for his freedom. As a storyteller, Alithea knows that such deals never end well and gratefully declines. But the djinni doesn't let up and tells her about his 3,000-year-old life and adventures in order to elicit her wishes, which end up surprising both of them. This film playfully transcends genre boundaries. It is a spiritual fairy tale, fantasy and love story all rolled into one and intoxicates with its images and outstanding actors.
"In "Three Thousand Years of Longing", Mad Max Fury Road director Miller creates images that are breathtakingly beautiful and have something spiritual about them."
