Topographie der Sehnsucht – Auf den Spuren Caspar David Friedrichs

In the organizer's words:

In the anniversary year 2024, a journey in the footsteps of the painter Caspar David Friedrich (1774 - 1840) will inevitably lead to the large district town of Pirna. This is where the famous painter's trail begins and ends, leading from the idyllic Liebethaler Grund to Pirna's historic market square. In honor of his 250th birthday, the StadtMuseum Pirna is showing the exhibition "Topography of Desire - In the Footsteps of Caspar David Friedrich" from 31 August to 3 November 2024, which offers a contemporary view of the landscape. Curated by art historian Maren Marzilger, the exhibition presents 14 artists who work with various media between quoting Friedrich and re-staging him.

Whether printmaking, silverpoint drawings, photography, painting, installation, collage or text - the exhibition promises powerful yet subtle works from four generations. On display are works by Konrad Henker, Anne Kern, Stefan Krauth, Katja Lang, Hanne Lange, Matthias Lehmann, Volker Lenkeit, Petra Lorenz, Christian Manss, Michael Merkel, Ullrich Panndorf, Erika Richter, Carla Schwiegk and Christina Wildgrube. All of these artists have a connection to Saxony: they studied at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts or the Academy of Visual Arts Leipzig, grew up here or live and work in the Free State today.
