Triage (DSE)

The theater once again focuses on contemporary Israeli drama and presents the German-language premiere of Triage, the new play by Israeli author Maya Arad Yasur.
by the Israeli author Maya Arad Yasur. She is already known to German theater audiences for works such as Gott wartet an der Haltestelle and Amsterdam. In Triage, Arad Yasur now addresses the complex issue of medical prioritization under the conditions of scarce resources in a disaster situation.

Prof. Blankenburg, the head of an intensive care unit, is faced with the difficult task of deciding on the distribution of vital resources, in particular ventilators. Her own professional decisions are compromised by her personal crises - her husband's battle with Parkinson's disease, which demands all her attention and emotional strength - making her situation even more desperate. Dr. Bozic also struggles with the principles of medical ethics, while at the same time he is preoccupied with his wife's longed-for pregnancy and his affair with Dr. Majewski. These characters experience the inner conflicts and moral dilemmas that confront medical personnel in extreme situations: Against the backdrop of a widespread fire disaster and the resulting hospital overload, an almost unbearable atmosphere is created that forces everyone to make quick, often heartbreaking decisions about life and death.

Triage illuminates the raw reality of those confronted with the darker side of their calling. Every decision has the potential to both save and destroy: Who should receive the last ventilator: A 70-year-old man or his childless son? What should you do if you can't help your own husband?

With Triage, Josua Rösing will be staging an Israeli text for the third time. Avishai Milstein's Die Friedensstifterin premiered at the Staatstheater Kassel in 2023 and has since been invited to the Reclaim Kunstfreiheit Festival in Berlin, the Open The Doors Festival in Katowice and the Hessische Theatertage in Giessen.
