TRIO SÊRENG & YALDA ABBASÎ - Kurdische Musik im Dialog mit Klassik und Jazz

In the organizer's words:

Kurdish musician Yalda Abbasî and the Sêreng trio combine the diversity of Kurdish music with elements of Western classical music and jazz. The ensemble is a winner of the Creole NRW 2024 competition organized by the NRW State Music Council.

The four musicians - from Iran, Armenia, Turkey and Germany - bring the music of Mesopotamia to new life with their arrangements and original compositions.
Abbasî sings and composes in Kurdish and Persian, inspired by almost forgotten folk melodies from her north-eastern Iranian homeland of Khorasan. From 2016, she expanded her repertoire by studying classical baroque singing in Milan. She has been back in Germany since 2022.

The trio Sêreng, consisting of the Kurdish violinist Nure Dlovani, the German jazz cellist Beate Wolff and the German-Turkish pianist Laia Genc, brings together individual musical colors. The result is a unique concert experience: a fusion of western and oriental music, classical, jazz, folklore and improvisation.
