Because a woman close to her has been violated, Princess Turandot has sworn revenge: no man shall possess her. Therefore, anyone who asks for her hand in marriage must solve three riddles. And anyone who gets it wrong will be executed. Many have tried in vain. Until an unknown prince arrives, knows the right answers and breaks through Turandot's ice-cold façade. Puccini's last opera, which remains a fragment, leaves behind the realism of its predecessors and commits itself to the large-scale and mythical. A story about the power of love, power and powerlessness is told with multi-layered sounds and emotional force.
