A group of teenagers are trapped in school for five days due to a typhoon. In the absence of adults, the complicated emotions of growing up are given space. Social norms lose their meaning and boundaries are tested. It's no wonder that this doesn't all end well. In several episodes, TYPHOON CLUB tells the harrowing stories of growing up, traumas that have a lifelong effect.

Depicted in distanced plan sequences, violence, sexuality and rivalry break out here in concentrated form, accompanied by the stormy waves of the typhoon. But the film also contains plenty of hope, playfulness and iconic scenes of youthful vitality. Fans of Japanese cinema have therefore long known it as THE genre-defining coming-of-age film, and although it has won many awards, it has long been difficult for Western audiences to access. A restored version has finally been available since last year.
