Film & discussion

The extent to which the ups and downs of this period of upheaval got "under the skin" of the people in our city can be seen in television reports and documentaries. For the first time since the GDR, they showed people and their opinions unfiltered and uncensored - decision-makers, activists, celebrities, but also young people with their problems, the diversity of voices on the street or in the workplace. The exhibition is therefore accompanied by the media project "Umbruch hautnah", funded by the Federal Foundation for the Reappraisal of the SED Dictatorship. From street surveys to artistic documentary films, from professional shoots to private videos - there are still many films slumbering in archives and households that bring emotions and facts to life. The focus is on contributions from the local television stations Kanal X and Studio Leipzig, which were only active until 1993. Viewed again today, they convey history unvarnished and directly.
