Ursi Pfennig

Anikó Kanthak, the Cologne-based songwriter, singer and producer, is Ursi Pfennig.
After two years of searching for a suitable sound for German songs, Anikó followed her vision and arranged music in the sound of songwriters such as James Taylor and Joni Mitchel. "I wanted to combine this impression and mood with German lyrics in a band concept."
It had to be beautiful and atmospheric. Folky, close and in German - but not profane or too kitschy. "Turn off just before the pop song."
Songs immersed in nostalgia with a vocal color that can handle a little more vibrato, less soul and a slightly lower register. Throttled tempos. Acoustic and labsteel guitars weave a tapestry around the atmospheric images of the songs.
Ursi Pfennig combines nostalgia with daring and the tradition of old songs with tangible lyrics. Even if Ursi is an artificial figure who floats above things like a diva, she is tangible and authentic. She could pass for a friend of Hildegard Knef, only more vocal. Her songs move between lightness and melancholy, with a subtle ironic twist. Casual, never pretentious and yet self-confident.
To mark the release of her debut album "Eine Frau", Ursi will be playing at Salon de Jazz for the first time. The vinyl album is available in a limited edition of 100 copies and can be purchased on site with a signature.
