VAN HOLZEN are singer and guitarist Florian Kiesling, bassist Jonas Schramm and drummer Daniel Kotitschke. They have been a band since 2009. Their self-titled debut EP was released in 2016 - directly via Warner Music Germany. The album Anomalie followed in 2017, Regen in 2019 and Aus der Ferne in 2021 - this time self-released, it became the band's most successful album to date. In their songs, VAN HOLZEN draw sometimes personal, sometimes more abstract sketches of gray life, of how depressing it can be to grow up as a young person in this complicated world. Pessimism and dystopian ideas work together, and Kiesling formulates the solution laconically: "I sleep so that I don't feel life."

VAN HOLZEN's bass and drums usually form watertight, crystalline grooves. Heavy or danceable, sometimes both. Kiesling's guitar lays rousing melodies on top or accentuated riffs underneath. This music is headstrong and independent. It is alternative rock of international caliber, but in German. VAN HOLZEN have achieved the feat of creating a timeless vision for their kind of rock in a time when rock is supposedly not so easy. But: Kiesling, Schramm and Kotitschke have always looked - and listened - to the left and right of the wayside. The instrumental DNA of hip-hop and the progressiveness of smart pop music have long been insignia of their songs.

From now on, VAN HOLZEN want to allow themselves more time for development and experimentation, to seek happiness in the unknown, to go on a creative journey. After all, the comfort zone is there to be left or - even better - expanded. To achieve this, they have created a self-sufficient infrastructure: their own studio in their home country and total creative control over their work. VAN HOLZEN have never been the band to stand still. This is proven by their constant, sometimes subtle, sometimes obvious change.

With their new single "Virtuell" (release date: 17.11.23), VAN HOLZEN together with MIA MORGAN deliver a melancholic, catchy and at the same time danceable song that shows clear influences of darkwave and newwave. "Virtuell" is about how two people grow apart through nightlife, excess and distance and only hear from each other through sporadic messages.
