Vernissage - Internationale Artist Residency “Modern Fiction”

We invite you to the exhibition opening!

Modern Fiction is a new exchange and residency program for artists from Greece and Germany. The aim of the project is to bring artists from both nations closer together and to initiate a sustainable exchange between the art scenes. In particular, the art locations of Hamburg and Athens/Hydra are to be strengthened. Accordingly, extensive encounter programs are planned in addition to the production times. The residency is to be continued in the coming years and ensure sustainable networking between the art scenes of both cities.

"Modern Fiction": questioning cultural stereotypes

The artist residency has the motto "Modern Fiction" and thus refers to the social and cultural traditions of both countries. Greece is stereotyped as "the cradle of European culture" and Germany as "the land of poets and thinkers" - the residency is about artistically questioning these stereotypes and finding new, modern narratives of fictional national identities that merge "fiction and truth" in a new way. This opens up new spaces for cultural dialog.

Five Greek artists in Hamburg

In cooperation with the A.S.F.A., MeetFrida has invited the five Greek artists Alexis Fidetzis, Erato Hadjisavva, Vasso Tzouti, Nikos Papadopoulos and Natasa Biza to live and work in Hamburg from April 24 to May 18. Following the residency, there will be a joint group exhibition of the German and Greek artists at the Hamburg "Fabrik der Künste" from May 17 to June 2. The day before (May 16) we cordially invite you to the vernissage and opening of the exhibition.

About the MeetFrida Foundation - Foundation for Art

The MeetFrida Foundation is a non-profit foundation for the promotion of ultra-contemporary artists. It represents over 70 artists from Germany and Europe and gives them new visibility and perspectives - among other things with diverse exhibition programs, an online platform and art actions in the urban environment such as art posters, augmented reality exhibitions and pop-up galleries. At the same time, the foundation aims to serve as a platform for exchange between artists. With artist residencies, it offers new opportunities for networking and collaboration.

About the Fabrik der Künste

The Fabrik der Künste Hamburg is a non-profit organization based in Hamburg Hammerbrook. The organization plans, develops and promotes creative and artistic projects. To this end, it has a total of 500 square meters of studio and exhibition space at its disposal, which is temporarily allocated to creative artists for various projects such as artistic and cultural events and other forms of cultural work.
