In the organizer's words:

On Sunday, November 10, 24, Dortmund artist Jens Sundheim will open his current exhibition at the balou gallery of the balou cultural center.

In serial photographic works, Jens Sundheim explores urban, technological and digital spaces and structures. He uses a wide variety of techniques - from analog photography and internet-based cameras to more experimental photographic processes.

Webcams and their imagery play a major role in his work. In projects that usually last many years, Sundheim examines the application, meaning and aesthetics of the images produced and negotiates the utopian potential of these devices as a global and (almost) universal photographic machine, but also as an instrument of control and surveillance.

About the artist: Jens Sundheim, born in Dortmund in 1970, studied photography in Dortmund, Exeter (UK), Berlin and Hamburg. He has been teaching photography at the Department of Art and Art Studies at TU Dortmund University since 2019. Sundheim is a member of Künstlerhaus Dortmund and has been chairman since 2019. In 2021 he was honored as Dortmund CityArtist. His work has been exhibited internationally on numerous occasions and is the subject of artistic and academic research. The free vernissage starts at 11:00 am. The event will be accompanied by music from pianist Harald Schollmeyer. Dr. Rudolf Preuss will introduce the exhibition. The exhibition will be on display at galerie balou until January 10, 25 during the opening hours of café balous.
