Youth work meets jazz

Cem Günes (piano), Daniel Emumwen (drums), José Díaz de León (electric bass), special guest: Matthias Bergmann

The Villa Band is a band project of the youth center "Die Villa" of the SKM Cologne. Under the direction of guitarist, multi-instrumentalist, singer and composer José Díaz de León, children and young people whose parents cannot afford music lessons learn various instruments and play together in the band. The repertoire includes original compositions as well as jazz standards such as "Spain" and "Armando's Rumba" by Chick Corea, groovy Latin pieces by Horace Silver and Herbie Hancock as well as well-known swing classics such as "Fly me to the Moon".

The project has been running for over 10 years and has had a positive influence on the lives of many young people and even brought one participant, the current professional musician David Riter, to the Cologne University of Music.
