Volkslieder: Damals und heute

It is a musical genre that is almost forgotten today: the romantic choral song, which is dedicated to poetry texts and is set to music in a folksong-like style. The professional vocal ensemble Vokalwerk Hannover(www.vokalwerkhannover.de) is devoting two concerts to the theme of folk song: on Saturday, 21.9.24 at 6 pm in the New Apostolic Church Hanover South and on Sunday, 22.9.24 at 5 pm in St. Godehard Hildesheim there will be an a cappella program on the theme of folk song, in which Vokalwerk Hannover will perform old and new folk songs. The new folk songs are composed in the tonal language of traditional choral songs by Brahms, Mendelssohn or Herzogenberg; they were created as part of an associated composition workshop. Can you tell the difference between a traditional song and a song written today in traditional language? A panel discussion accompanying the concert will provide an introduction to the topic.
