In this part of the masterclass, Christian Radler, Head of Team Research and Development tagesschau, gives you insights into AI experiments at tagesschau. A new AI tool is currently being tested at tagesschau, which could be used to create short news films in a semi-automated way in the future. It is said that in some cases, such a news film edited by an automatic machine is almost indistinguishable from a film made by a human professional. Would you like to see that? We'll look at it together using an example. And we'll talk about where perhaps the first automated machine will be used in tagesschau's day-to-day editorial work, doing a better job than many of its human colleagues.

Data team - examples and projects
In which villages in Lower Saxony are there no buses or trains in the evening? How segregated are rich and poor in the major cities of northern Germany? And how is climate change making itself felt in my home? Claus Hesseling, data journalist at NDR Data, finds relevant stories in large data sets. Using examples, he reports on how this works and what opportunities automation offers in reporting.

The use of artificial intelligence as an analysis method for working with large data sets is new for the team. What topics are covered in a collection of documents? How can large amounts of video material be transcribed and analyzed? Are there distant locations that are demographically similar? It is becoming increasingly clear that AI offers advantages in research.
