Weihnachtssingen auf dem Tivoli

The Christmas singing at the Tivoli is an event organized by the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Christlicher Kirchen (ACK) in cooperation with Alemannia Aachen and creatEvent christian mourad.

What do a soccer match and a church service have in common? The cheerful, enthusiastic, heartfelt singing of all fans! Soccer fans and fans of God unite at the Tivoli to sing together about what they love. Soccer fans can be fans of God and fans of God can be soccer fans. In any case, fans are people with small and big feelings, with fears of terrible defeats and with joy over great victories.

Christmas touches our emotions in a special way. It is the Christian festival that even those who have become estranged from the church like to celebrate. For a few days, a special atmosphere returns to all Christian countries around the world. Many seek to be close to their family and good friends.

The birth of a child touches everyone deeply. New life means new hope. The idea that there is a special mystery surrounding this child in the manger in Bethlehem has not disappeared, even in a secular world.

The songs sing of this mystery and the stories tell of it at Christmas time. In the child Jesus, the eternal God comes into the darkness and fears of this world. He touches our longing for comfort, peace and justice.

Where the message of Christmas is proclaimed, the vision is awakened of how people can begin to live together in peace, with each other and with a God who has sometimes become a stranger. When we sing our carols on the Tivoli, hear the Christmas story and see the glow of the candles, we experience for a moment something of the attraction of this paradisiacal vision. Once a year, we rekindle the hope that everything will turn out well, for us personally and for the greater history of the world.

That is why we as Fan-IG and as churches have been guided by this principle from the very beginning: Singing together is the most important thing. We do not rely on professional musical artists, but on each individual visitor. Even where choirs and soloists sing, it's about everyone singing along. They encourage us to sing happily.

So that as many people as possible can share this community, the Aachen Christmas Singing is and remains a non-commercial event. The family-friendly admission prices are calculated to cover the costs of technology, security and cleaning, song booklets and candles. Profits are not sought. Any surplus goes into the reserves for the following year.
