WICKED tells the previously unknown story of the witches of Oz. Two young women take center stage: One is Elphaba (played by Emmy, Grammy and Tony Award winner Cynthia Erivo, Harriet - The Road to Freedom, Broadway play The Color Purple), who is misunderstood because of her unusual green skin color and has yet to discover her true abilities, and the other is the popular, ambitious and privileged Glinda (played by global star and multi-platinum and Grammy winner Ariana Grande), who has yet to find her true self.
The two meet as students at Glizz University in the fantastical land of Oz and form an unusual but deep friendship. After an encounter with the wonderful Wizard of Oz, their relationship reaches a turning point and the two friends' lives take very different paths. Glinda's unwavering desire for popularity seduces her into power, while Elphaba's determination to stay true to herself and those around her will have unexpected and shocking consequences for her future. In their incredible adventures in Oz, both must ultimately fulfill their destinies: Glinda as the Good and Elphaba as the Wicked Witch of the West.
For two decades, it has been one of the most popular and enduring musicals ever to grace the stage. For this year's Christmas season, WICKED is finally coming to the big screen as a spectacular, cross-generational movie event.
WICKED is the first chapter of a thrilling cinematic experience directed by acclaimed filmmaker Jon M. Chu (Crazy Rich Asians, In the Heights). The second part, Wicked - Part 2, is scheduled to be released in cinemas on December 25, 2025.
