Virtual past: How games shape the culture of remembrance of National Socialism

In historical and political education and in social media, we can no longer ignore serious games. Developments in the field of Nazi remembrance culture are rapid. In its current exhibition "In Echt?", the Brandenburg Museum is exploring a virtual reality application on the Nazi era.

On this evening, renowned experts will talk about the latest developments. They will also identify challenges.
Afterwards, there will be an opportunity to try out three current applications for yourself in the Game Zone and discuss them with others.

The event is aimed at interested parties, multipliers, teachers and students and does not require any prior knowledge.

How do digital technologies and serious games influence the culture of remembrance of National Socialism? Renowned experts will shed light on current developments and discuss the opportunities and challenges of these new approaches. Moderated by Miriam Menzel, the talk offers exciting insights into scientific perspectives, digital humanities and historical-political education.

Game Zone - Culture of Remembrance in Serious Games

The Game Zone invites you to try out three innovative applications on the culture of remembrance of National Socialism. In a quiet atmosphere, participants can engage intensively with the games, gather their own impressions and discuss them with others. Experts will be on hand to answer questions and engage in discussions.

The games:

• "Remember. The Children of Bullenhuser Damm " - An interactive remembrance game that focuses on the history of an SS crime and how it was dealt with.
• #LastSeen - A discovery game that documents Nazi deportations and asks questions about shared knowledge and shared responsibility.
• The Darkest Files - A historical court game that deals with true cases of post-war justice and provides insights into investigative work.
