A dialog between two large female bodies: they sound and move, surprise and confront fatphobia and outdated ideals of beauty.
In WORKING SURFACE, Natasa Chanta-Martin combines body percussion, contemporary dance and physical theater to create an exciting experience. The body becomes the stage: it sounds, moves and takes up space. The focus is on the concept of improvography - a mixture of improvisation and choreography that offers new surprises for the audience and dancers in every performance. The diversity and power of the body are emphasized and prevailing ideals of beauty are questioned. Two worlds collide on stage: one in which thinness is equated with health and body shaming plays a role, and a second that opposes fatphobia and promotes body awareness. The focus here is on two strong, multi-weight, professional performers who use their bodies as an instrument for music, space and expression.
Natasa Chanta-Martin is a Greek-American artist, cultural manager and dance anthropologist. She studied classical ballet, contemporary theater and has been focusing on tap dance and body percussion for several years. She believes that body percussion is probably the most sustainable form of theater: it requires nothing more than the body itself - no props, no special costumes, just pure expression. WORKING SURFACE takes up the oldest form of dance and music and creates something completely new in the process. Join us and celebrate body, power and sound!
