Wor(l)d Connects & Öku-Büro present: Audry Funk & DJ Kuto Quilla + Omar Musa & Mariel Roberts

The Munich Department of Culture and the Öku-Büro are jointly organizing a concert evening that revolves around the socio-critical examination of discrimination in our current society. To this end, exciting artists have been invited who see themselves at the mercy of discrimination in different ways in their respective countries and process this in their texts.

An exhibition will also take place during this period, creating exciting references and space for critical reflection in the context of the major social event of the European Championship.

Audry Funk is a Mexican rapper, songwriter and activist who lives in the Bronx in New York. She has performed on various international stages - at festivals, in communities or as an MC and speaker in communal spaces as well as at conferences at universities such as Harvard. (Inter)national media such as BBC London, The Guardian and ARTE Germany have highlighted her as one of the most outstanding women in the rap and reggae scene. DJ Kuto Quilla, Peruvian DJ and producer from Hamburg, has already accompanied the Guatemalan rapper and activist Rebeca Lane on her European tour. His DJ sets break down the boundaries between different musical genres from cumbia and salsa to drum n bass, Afrobeats and Afrolatin music.

Omar Musa, multi-award-winning rapper, spoken word poet and author from Australia with Malaysian roots, and internationally renowned US cellist and composer Mariel Roberts bring a captivating music, poetry and theater performance to the stage with "The Offering": stories passed down orally are combined with themes such as seafaring, environmental destruction, identity and borderlessness. Their performance combines storytelling, poetry, hip-hop and live music with sound recordings made in the forests and the ocean off the island of Borneo. In addition to 3 books of poetry, Omar Musa has also released several hip-hop records. These include "Since Ali Died", an album that paints a very different Australia, characterized by class struggles, inequalities, oppression of migrant, Muslim and indigenous communities and colonial attitudes. In spring 2024, he presented his new album "The Fullness" on an Australian tour, which moves between sounds, music and poetry and addresses topics such as climate change, Muslim identity and the search for a home.
