The World Press Photo exhibition is coming to the Depot in Dortmund from September 28 to October 20, 2024!

Every year, the World Press Photo Foundation honors the best press photographs in an international competition. The award-winning photos are shown around the globe in a traveling exhibition and attract several million visitors. From September 28 to October 20, 2024, the Depot cultural venue will be showing the exhibition in Dortmund.

Whether a single image or a series - the photographs are moving, provide insights into social and personal conflicts and offer a look back at important news-related events of the past year.

The main aim of the World Press Photo Foundation is to support and promote professional press photographers internationally.

Admission prices

• Normal: 8,00 €

• Reduced: € 6.00 (pupils and students, people doing a voluntary social year or federal voluntary service, trainees and au pairs up to and including 27 years of age and Dortmund Pass holders on presentation of proof)

• Free admission: Children up to and including the age of 6, Accompanying persons with disabilities (severely disabled pass marked "B"). People on the guest list, depot staff, press (upon presentation of press card) and winners of tickets from the Facebook/Instagram Lottery.

• Family ticket 1: € 20.00 (two adults with max. three children up to 18 years)
  Family ticket 2: € 12.00 (one adult with max. three children up to 18 years)

• Happy Hour Ticket: € 6.00 During the week from 19:00, Friday and Saturday from 21:00

Coffee time at the weekend - coffee and cake are served in the central hall on Saturdays and Sundays.

With expert guides through the World Press Photo exhibition

Eight public guided tours offer the opportunity to delve even deeper into the world of press photography. Photographer Jan Schmitz will guide visitors through the exhibition with photographic expertise and fascinating background information. Each tour lasts approximately one hour.

Exclusive preview film screening: I am not yet who I want to be

What will documentaries about influencers who meticulously record their lives with selfies and pictures look like in the future? How can this wealth of material be structured to tell an interesting story for the screen? Born in Prague in 1952, photographer Libuše Jarcovjáková does not come from the social media era. Nevertheless, director Klára Tasovská's cinematic essay I am not yet who I want to be offers an impressive answer to the question of how a radically autobiographical style can become an engaging cinematic experience.

No Man's Land: The Price of Progress

As part of the World Press Photo exhibition at the Depot, we are pleased to invite documentary photographer Daniel Chatard to a conversation with photo editor and curator Cale Garrido in cooperation with the Image Section of the German Photographic Society. Chatard, winner of the World Press Photo Award for the best long-term project in Europe, will give insights into his award-winning project No Man's Land and his approach to documentary photography.
