Woyzeck

In the organizer's words:

Woyzeck is a simple town soldier. And he loves Marie. In order for her and her child to survive, he earns some extra money, shaves his captain and submits to the doctor's experiments. The pressure on Woyzeck is so great that one could be forgiven for thinking that he is still overflowing with thoughts. Marie meets the drum major, and this gives her a glimpse of a different, more carefree life. The freedom of bodies, the lust of others, humiliation, loneliness and delusion - it is too much. Woyzeck stabs Marie - victim and perpetrator, kicked and kicker, abused and abuser. On the one hand, Büchner's Woyzeck tells of discipline, harassment, poverty, humiliation and a class society in a language that makes social markers recognizable. On the other hand, Büchner introduces numerous hooks and contradictions into the play, and not least the blind spot of the play, the murder of Marie, shows that we are far from finished with this theatrical view of social conditions.
Mizgin Bilmen directs drama and opera. From the 2024/25 season, she will be in-house director and a member of the artistic direction of the Schauspiel at Staatstheater Darmstadt. She has worked at Schauspiel Frankfurt, Theater Bielefeld, Stadttheater Bern and Anhaltisches Theater Dessau, among others.
