Xiu Xiu + Kee Avil

Xiu Xiu are back in Trier with their new album "13" Frank Beltrame Italian Stiletto with Bison Horn Grips".

Their music is a mixture of British post-punk and synth-pop, noise and experimental music. Founded in 2002 in San Jose, California, by the only constant member Jamie Steward, Xiu Xiu have since toured tirelessly all over the world and have released over 15 albums including various collaborations. Angela Seo has also been a member of the band since 2009.

Xiu Xiu have been described as "self-flagellating", "harsh", "brutal", "shocking" and "perverse", but also as "ingenious", "brilliant", "unique", "imaginative", "enlightening" and "melt-in-your-mouth". They have collaborated with countless fantastic other artists, such as Mitski, Swans, Deerhoof, Chelsea Wolfe, Sharon Van Etten, to name but a few. From melancholic-melodic wave and synthpop of the 80s to free jazz and noise experiments, they always manage to surprise and touch with their albums and their intense live shows. Music for those moments when the harsh reality of life meets its existential secrets. A deep sense of emotional vulnerability runs through the group's music, but also a spirit of openness and experimentation as they peer into the sonic unknown and create moments of catharsis by harnessing bursts of noise and other unusual sounds.


Montreal producer Kee Avil combines guitar, voice and electronic production to create deconstructed songs characterized by a distinctive blend of avant-pop, glitch, post-industrial and experimental folk sensibilities. Their last album "Spine" was released in May 2024 on Constellation as "Bandcamp Album of the Day" and was highly praised by critics. "Spine" expands Kee Avil's sonic palette with intensely detailed work, revealing a compelling new voice in experimental songcraft that takes cues from PJ Harvey, Eartheater, Shygirl, SOPHIE and Lucretia Dalt, where Juana Molina collaborates with Coil or Grouper fuses with Autechre.
