YUDéjàVu balkaNet Musikperformance - Popkultur, Subversion und Transnationalismus Ein Blick zurück, um voranzugehen

In the organizer's words:

"YUdéjàVU" balkaNet music performance

Utopia, modernism, punk, subversion, war and a bunch of questions: a musical narrative by Balkanet e.V. examines the Yugoslavian past to help us in the present.

"YUdéjàVU" is a journey through Yugoslavia's pop culture from 1950 to the present day. Until the collapse of Yugoslavia, the society of the non-aligned multi-ethnic state was steeped in subversive ideas: Punk rock and avant-garde were not a marginal phenomenon here, but mainstream. But how could a society characterized by subversion, tangible awakening and utopias slide into a bloody war and genocide? And what does this bitter realization do to the survivors? The Munich-based group balkaNet e.V. is made up of members from different population groups in the former Yugoslavia. Those who organize there believe in overcoming nationalism and in the utopia of multi- and non-religious coexistence. Nevertheless, they all need a lifetime to understand what happened back then.

"YUdéjàVu" approaches the answers. And leads us through the boundlessly interesting history of the Yugoslav pop and rock scene. It survived the collapse of the state. As a result, the music took on a trans-Yugoslav identity and spread throughout the world in diasporic contexts. Let us now let it resound in the Werk*raum of the Kammerspiele. Because it tells us far more about our present than we want to admit.
