Zeichenzirkel mit Tony Franz (Künstler, Leipzig)

We invite everyone who would like to draw or learn to draw together to our drawing circle. Led by artists from Leipzig and the surrounding area, the circle enables an open exchange about the medium of drawing. Various techniques will be tried out: Sometimes closer to the traditional concept of drawing, sometimes further away from it. As a rule, the artistic direction of the drawing circle changes every eight weeks.

From October to December, the artist Tony Franz invites course participants to create new visual worlds using various copying techniques. By duplicating and deliberately reducing the material, the core of a pictorial object is worked out and made visible. In addition to objects in the room, photographs also serve as inspiration for the image design. Tony Franz brings his own engagement with various pop-cultural themes and techniques to explore individual areas of interest together with the participants and express them through various methods such as writing and images.

Tony Franz studied painting and graphics at the Dresden University of Fine Arts and was a master student of Ralf Kerbach. He has received various awards, including the Arras Prize for Art and Culture in Dresden as well as travel grants to Hamburg, Cleveland and Columbus (Ohio/USA) and Plüschow Castle. In 2013, he was a Heimspiel fellow of the Cultural Foundation of the Free State of Saxony at HALLE 14. In his conceptual-graphic work, he deals with various thematic complexes, which he uses to examine the political dimension of images.
