ZEIT FÜR ZIRKUS: SYMBIOSIS [WORK-IN-PROGRESS]

Two circus artists, two handwritings, one artistic vision. A contemporary circus diptych in which two artistic interpretations are interwoven at the core.
As part of the nationwide festival ZEIT FÜR ZIRKUS from November 15 to 17, 2024, Kolja Huneck and Luuk Brantjes (Symbiosis Circus) will build a dome tent on the LOFFT stage and give insights into their current work on the piece SYMBIOSIS in two showings.
The artists are working on the production in joint residencies, combining their interest and experience with Magie Nouvelle. Their approach to the circus disciplines of object manipulation and spinning board is refined and used as a language. The visual images, atmospheres and circus vocabulary result in a piece that is connected like a mycorrhizal network, i.e. a fungus-root interweaving, and inspired by the separation between nature and man. Powerlessness in the face of nature and its global complexity serves as the starting point. For SYMBIOSIS, the artists are researching natural resources and ways to stay in balance with planet Earth.
In addition to the piece itself, a mobile performance space - a kind of net-shaped dome tent - was developed to turn the diptych into a unique immersive audience experience. A tailor-made space that is shaped by the fascinating world and magic of the performance and takes root in every new location.
The project is an international cooperation with partners in Germany, the Netherlands, France and Belgium and will be performed as a finished stage play in Leipzig in April 2025.
