The state elections in Saxony, Thuringia and Brandenburg have shaken up the party system. The AfD received around a third of the vote in all states. With the BSW, a new party has not only entered the state parliaments in double figures, it could also be involved in governments straight away. And the parties of the traffic light coalition only achieved weak results.

What will happen after the elections? Which governments will emerge and how stable will they be? How long can the AfD be kept out of power? What conclusions will the parties draw for the 2025 federal elections and the next state elections? And what do the results - 35 years after the fall of the Berlin Wall - mean for the relationship between East and West?
