The FWT: Freies Werkstatt Theater is a place of exchange and artistic engagement with the present. Since its foundation in 1977, it has been a permanent fixture in Cologne's independent theater scene. At the interface of theater, performance and media art, the FWT: develops its own productions and collaborates with independent artists and groups. Under the label Focus on:, the theater artistically explores global challenges and social tensions in themed series. The current themed series Focus on: TIPPING POINTS begins on March 14, 2026.
We also present extraordinary productions of contemporary drama. The program is complemented by talks and readings as well as productions for young audiences.
