Hamburg's best-known shopping street has become the site of the largest temporary creative use in Germany. Numerous cultural institutions and creative professionals have moved into the former Karstadt Sport building on Mönckebergstraße by the end of the year, transforming around 8,000 square meters of vacant space, spread over six floors, into temporary studios, exhibition spaces, co-working spaces and production locations. The extensive project was made possible by the Hamburg Kreativ Gesellschaft's Frei_Fläche program and the Fund for Creative Interim Use.
