Churches are places of encounter, first and foremost with religious but also with social issues. One way of communicating this is through art - and the cultural churches bring this to the congregations in a very tangible, experiential way. With the Kulturkirche Bremerhaven, "the church" is also opening a door to the outside world that is still unusual, but is already attracting many visitors to the seaside city.

The events at the Kulturkirche Bremerhaven are developed individually with the artists and are unique. This is also done in order to do justice to the special atmosphere of the unusual sacred building: Because St. Paul's Church in Lehe, built in 1905 in neo-Gothic brick, is a special place thanks to its architecture and its location in the lively and diverse district. And so the space of St. Paul's Church itself tells a story that resonates at all cultural events and is appreciated by visitors. This creates a charisma for the district that does it good.

The range of events on offer is as diverse as the church and art itself: There are tango dance concert services, poetry slams on Bible texts, installations in the church tower and improv services. Dance, theater, music, exhibitions, readings and discussions are offered without being limited to one genre.

In recent months, the current right to euthanasia has been discussed, an art walk has been organized, an exhibition with photographs on the Song of Songs and a concert with love songs of the Orient have taken place. In coordination with the artists, these events were designed with passion and attention to detail, down to the smallest detail.

The breadth of the events on offer is also due to the Kulturkirche Bremerhaven's pleasure in working with cooperation partners. This networking is a benefit for the visitors, the district and the city, as well as for the artists and their supporting institutions. As a result, the work of the Kulturkirche Bremerhaven - funded since 2013 by the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hanover, the Hanns Lilje Foundation and the Bremerhaven church district - achieves the desired supra-regional impact.

The work of the Kulturkirche Bremerhaven is supported by a board of trustees. Its members are Superintendent Susanne Wendorf, Deacon Andreas Hagedorn, Dennis Improda - Arts and Culture Officer at the House of Church Services, Christiane Koschinsky, Frauke von Oesen and Silke Mohrhoff.
