UMZU

Since June 2023, the UMZU at Hanseatenhof has been a new place for city makers in Bremen. The project space in the old market pavilion was created on the initiative of the City Center Project Office in cooperation with the Autonomous Architecture Studio and serves as an experimental space for testing concepts outside of the retail sector in Bremen's city center. Individuals and initiatives that would otherwise be unable to find premises in the city center can rent space here. A particularly low-threshold application process also enables groups previously unfamiliar with administrative structures to make submissions and the rental price is based on the possibilities of the interested parties (for the most part, no rent is charged). The fully glazed, 40 m² room is equipped with a basic inventory and the use of the Hanseatenhof in front of the room is also explicitly desired.

Around 130 events took place here in the first season from June to December 2023. These included: interactive music performances, a dance workshop, a clothes swap party, media mediation and digital urban development for young people, a record release party, parts of the European Mobility Week, an intercultural language and cultural program, an empowerment project, volunteer advice, DJ workshops, readings and screams
