We at LOKSTOFF! Theater im öffentlichen Raum see ourselves as an open and committed collective. Our themes revolve around the problems and challenges of an urban society that is exposed to the danger of people becoming increasingly alienated from each other, their work and the public space.

We are looking for concrete places that reflect contemporary urban everyday life, where architecture and infrastructure bundle life and people come together. The places are atmospherically condensed through the performance. It is the location and its people that help to write the script of each performance and form the driving force of each evening.

LOKSTOFF! not only plays in and for public space, but also about it. We thematize public space in its political, cultural and urban dimensions in order to sensitize the audience to our issues and invite them to reflect. Playing in public space therefore not only dramatizes public spaces, but also raises awareness of the significance and importance of the public sphere and public space for a functioning community. As such, LOKSTOFF! sees itself as a socially engaged theater that is committed to preserving and strengthening public space.

Rehearsals and performances in public spaces bring us to the attention of people who have rarely or never been to the theater. Many passers-by who see us by chance come back as audiences. Young people in particular are attracted by the unusual locations and direct action. LOKSTOFF! makes theater visible. We bring it to the people and thus reach an audience that is distant from the theater, which is made curious by the interaction in public space.
