Tata Ronkholz: Shaped world. A retrospective
An exhibition of the Photographische Sammlung/SK Stiftung Kultur in collaboration with VAN HAM Art Estate and the Stadtmuseum Düsseldorf

The artist and photographer Tata Ronkholz (1940-1997) will be honored with her first major retrospective this spring. She was one of the first students in Bernd Becher's class at the Düsseldorf Art Academy. Due to her early death, her work was only received in part for a long time, although it testifies to a profound and continuous examination of several themes. Ronkholz became known for her series of kiosks and drinking establishments as well as smaller stores from the Rhineland and Ruhr region, which she began in 1977. The mostly small, sometimes freestanding buildings appear to be eloquent testimonies to everyday culture in terms of their design and surroundings, their range of goods and advertising materials. Tata Ronkholz has also produced a photographic series on various industrial gates. Together with her former fellow student Thomas Struth, she documented the Rhine harbor in Düsseldorf from 1979 to 1981 before its transformation into the so-called Medienhafen. Another surprise will be insights into Ronkholz's early work as a freelance product designer as well as early photographs of building forms taken in Italy. An accompanying catalog will be published.
