Hommage an Aria Covamonas (1979–2025)

Im Rahmen eines Animationsfilmabends läuft „The Great History of Western Philosophy“ von Aria Covamonas am 1. Juli um 19 Uhr in der Aula der KHM. Der Cutout-Animationsfilm feierte seine Weltpremiere beim International Film Festival Rotterdam 2025 und lief im selben Jahr auch beim Internationalen Leipziger Festival für Dokumentar- und Animationsfilm. Vanja Kaludjercic vom International Film Festival Rotterdam schreibt:  „With its fantastical, painterly collage aesthetic, dadaist sensibilities, and hilarious dubbed Chinese dialogue accompanied by entirely invented subtitles, this Mexican animated debut feature offers a sharp and irreverent critique of political and popular culture.“

Aria Covamonas (she/they) wurde nach eigenen Angaben auf dem Planeten Erde im Sonnensystem geboren und war eine autodidaktische Filmemacher*in, Fotomontage- und Animationskünstler*in. Aria Covamonas Kurzfilme „Socrates’ Adventure in the Underground“, „Hideouser and Hideourser“, „Unidentified Item No. 984“, „Taxidermy for Beginners“, „Camille Saint-Saëns’ The Carnival of the Animals“ und „Tinnitus“ wurden international gezeigt. „The Great History of Western Philosophy“ ist Aria Covamonas erster und einziger Langfilm.

Be relieved that the sentence didn’t stick being refuted by Monkey and Pigsy from Journey to the West.
