HOT GARBAGE

After this last spring EU/UK, Toronto band Hot Garbage is planning a new one in late spring/early summer 2024. But there's more! Expect their sophomore album in January: "Precious Dream" will be out on Mothland and will be anticipated by some singles during the next few months.

Hot Garbage have a penchant for melting into a heavily volatile yet undeniably palatable amalgamation of sonic elements. Calling on the driving rhythms of dark post-punk and motorik krautrock, the Toronto-based outfit seamlessly works shining melodies and swirling textures into deliberate, brooding arrangements. With an eclectic range of inspiration spanning genres and art forms, fans of CAN, Broadcast, and 70’s era Iggy will find a familiar pull into the raw sound.

Following the release of two EP’s, Hot Garbage entered the studio with Juno-nominated producer Graham Walsh (of evil experimental Toronto supergroup Holy Fuck) in early 2020 to cut a selection of tracks, with the majority of tracking done live off the floor. The result was a blazing standalone single, Easy Believer, and the group’s debut long play offering, RIDE, composed of 33 reverb-soaked minutes to be pressed to vinyl and released on Mothland in October 2021. RIDE quickly made its way into SiriusXM rotation on CBC Radio 3 and The Verge, and climbed to #3 on the Earshot Top 50 and #82 on the NACC Top 200.

Aside from studio endeavours, Hot Garbage have traversed North America tirelessly, bringing their intense live sets to festival slots at LEVITATION (Austin, TX), SXSW (Austin, TX), Treefort Music Fest (Boise, ID), Freakout Fest (Seattle, WA), Sled Island (Calgary, AB), Sappyfest (Sackville, NB), FME (Rouyn-Noranda, QC), M for Montreal (Montreal, QC), and Pop Montreal (Montreal, QC) as well as on tour with L.A. Witch and Frankie & The Witch Fingers.

Swedish post-psych outfit DEN DER HALE aims not so much at creating a specific sound, as much as melding together the various creative inspirations of each individual member. As such, the result is eclectic and experimental and, in many ways, more than the mere sum of its parts. Itinerant rhythms and atonal melodies are filtered through heavy effects, harsh layers of noise are contrasted by animate bass lines and propulsive percussions. In this seemingly chaotic amalgam, there is always a red line, and often each musical output becomes a synthesis, a whole.

Enigmatic Swedish post-psych band DEN DER HALE are known for their boundary-pushing soundscapes. The group are currently released their highly anticipated second album, Pastoral Light, on February 2nd via FatCat Records. This album showcases the band's ability to meld diverse creative inspirations into a seamless and experimental sonic journey, transcending genres and defying conventions.

Den Der Hale was formed in 2019 by Pontus Lindskogen (guitar, vocals), Max Bredberg (guitar), Axel Nelson (drums), Mimosa Baker (synth, vocals), and Ejner Trenter (bass). Operating from various rehearsal spaces in Malmö, the band quickly gained recognition in Scandinavia with a series of singles, followed by their debut album, Harsyra, in 2021.

Their unique fusion of folk-inspired kraut, gritty psych, and post-rock led to the band’s creation of the term "post-psych" which perfectly encapsulates their distinctive sound. Itinerant rhythms and atonal melodies are filtered through heavy effects, harsh layers of noise are contrasted by animate bass lines and propulsive percussions. In this seemingly chaotic amalgam, there is always a red line, and often each musical output becomes a synthesis, a whole.

Overall, Pastoral Light was inspired by the proliferation of mankind and the human impact on the environment. Serving as a plea to natural forces for redemption, Pastoral Light is a profound musical journey that will leave listeners both spellbound and reflective.
