This matinee reading is dedicated to the art of the short story, offering insight into the genre through a selection of texts from the Icelandic author María Elísabet Bragadóttir.
Following a brief introduction, María Elísabet will read two excerpts from two of her short stories in English. After each reading, the audience is invited to join a moderated conversation reflecting on the texts and exploring the broader qualities and possibilities of short fiction. The event concludes with an open Q&A.
María Elísabet Bragadóttir (b. 1993) is a writer from Reykjavík, Iceland. She is the author of the critically acclaimed short-story collections Room in Another World (2020) and The Soap Bird (2022), the latter of which received a Special Mention at the European Union Prize for Literature. Both books have been translated into several languages.
In 2025, she co-authored and edited Crossroads – Anthology of Art Inspired Writing, published by the National Gallery of Iceland and Reykjavík UNESCO City of Literature.
