Dieses Konzert markiert das erste gemeinsame Bühnenaufeinandertreffen zweier herausragender Improvisatoren.

Tomaž Grom
(Ljubljana, 1972) – Kontrabassist, Komponist
Für Tomaž Grom ist Musik ein Medium der Kommunikation, nicht bloß ästhetisches Vergnügen – ein Weg des Suchens, des Fragens ohne Antwort, ein Fluss von Ideen und unvorhersehbaren Situationen. Für ihn ist Komposition Improvisation – und Improvisation ein Raum, in dem man sich verlieren darf.

Grom trat europaweit und in Nordamerika auf. Er komponierte Musik für Theater, zeitgenössischen Tanz, Puppenspiel und Film. Er ist Gründer und künstlerischer Leiter von Zavod Sploh (Ljubljana), einer Vereinigung zur Produktion von Musik und darstellender Kunst sowie zur Bildung und Publikation in diesem Bereich. Zudem kuratiert er das Festival Sound Disobedience und mehrere Konzertreihen.

Raed Yassin
(Geboren 1979, Beirut) – Künstler, Musiker
Raed Yassin ist ein multidisziplinärer Künstler und Musiker. Seine konzeptuelle Praxis umfasst Video, Sound, Fotografie, Text, Skulptur und Performance. Oft setzt er sich mit persönlichen Erzählungen im Spannungsfeld kollektiver Geschichte auseinander – gefiltert durch Konsumkultur und Massenproduktion.

Er absolvierte 2003 das Theaterstudium an der Fakultät der Schönen Künste in Beirut. Seither war er Artist-in-Residence bei De Ateliers (Amsterdam), der Delfina Foundation (London), der Akademie der Künste der Welt (Köln) und anderen. 2012 erhielt er den Abraaj Group Art Prize.

Als Musiker ist Yassin Mitbegründer des Irtijal Festival for Experimental Music (Beirut) und veröffentlichte zahlreiche Soloalben sowie Arbeiten mit Gruppen wie dem “A” Trio und PRAED. 2009 gründete er das unabhängige Musiklabel Annihaya. Raed lebt derzeit zwischen Berlin und Beirut.

For Tomaž Grom, music is a medium of communication rather than aesthetic pleasure—a way of seeking, of posing unanswered questions, of allowing a flow of ideas and unpredictable situations. For him, composition is improvisation, and improvisation offers space to lose oneself.

Grom has performed extensively across Europe and North America. He has composed music for theater, contemporary dance, puppet performances, and films. He is the founder and artistic director of Zavod Sploh (Ljubljana), an association dedicated to the production of music and performing arts, as well as education and publishing in the field. He also curates the Sound Disobedience festival and several concert series.

Raed Yassin
(Born 1979, Beirut) – Artist, musician
Raed Yassin is a multidisciplinary artist and musician whose conceptual practice spans video, sound, photography, text, sculpture, and performance. His work often explores personal narrative in relation to collective history, filtered through the lens of consumer culture and mass production.

He graduated from the Theater Department at the Institute of Fine Arts in Beirut in 2003. Since then, he has been an artist-in-residence at De Ateliers (Amsterdam), Delfina Foundation (London), and Akademie der Künste der Welt (Cologne), among others. He is a recipient of the Abraaj Group Art Prize (2012).

As a musician, Yassin co-founded the Irtijal Festival for Experimental Music (Beirut) and has released numerous solo albums as well as collaborative work with groups such as “A” Trio and PRAED. In 2009, he founded the independent label Annihaya. Raed currently lives between Berlin and Beirut.
