What makes us human if not our feelings? An essential part of Christian Löffler's work is based on this fundamental understanding. As intuitive as he is straightforward, his creative process has always been an effort to capture something profound and unique from his inner world. His new album A Life, which will be released on Ki Records on 26.04.24, is the producer's strongest appeal to our humanity yet. As we enter a new era of technological advancement, in which artificial intelligence plays an increasingly important role, Christian offers us an alternative path of artistic expression. The result is a journey of wanderlust that reminds us that music is not a product, but is created with the hands and soul of a person.
Christian Löffler has been striving to express his feelings since he was a teenager. First through painting, later with the help of music. His picturesque hometown of Graal has found its way into all his previous albums and many of his artworks to date in different ways. Although his haunting soundscapes may not directly reference the raw beauty of the scenery, it is the remoteness and isolation that Christian taps into time and time again.
On his latest album A Life, he once again uses his feelings as the most important source material and paints impressionistic soundscapes that go straight to the heart. The album is also a reflection of his introspections: Questions regarding the increasingly technology-led development of electronic music and how he fits into this picture as a musician. "I asked myself a lot of questions - where should my journey go? Will my music stay as it was or evolve into something else? I had a strong need for clarity and directness," muses the artist. But as is usually the case with Christian, his reflections led to an expression and A Life shows him this time with his positive and optimistic voice - inspiring hope in the listener.
Although Christian's sound has always stood in contrast to the over-produced, systematic work of Softwares, A Life is his most intuitive album to date. "I wanted to forget the idea of polishing or perfection and create something truly human, with passion, impulsiveness and even mistakes," he says. And because human endeavor is rarely a solitary endeavor, Christian Löffler invited friends and companions to add their own touch to the music. For the track "Envy", the producer teamed up with singer-songwriter Mogli, who became known for her debut album Wanderer: the soundtrack to her Netflix and movie hit Expedition Happiness, a documentary of her journey through North America in a converted school bus, which she directed herself. The track reflects Christian's electronic signature in a wonderfully uplifting journey towards pop, with Mogli's captivating vocals unleashing a disarming honesty. In "Roused", Löffler's driving beats are lined and bathed in soft light by singer Malou and her serene yet emotionally haunting vocal style. Vocals, beats and goosebump-inducing textures culminate in a track that explodes with feelings of freedom and exhilaration. In "Brave", Christian Löffler works with catchy beats and breathes new life into them with stirring textures, vocal samples and gentle piano chords. It's a track that shows the producer balancing drives and desires - in a contemplative nature and with its ever-recognizable nostalgic hue.

Each track on A Life hints at a unique human condition and like a deep breath on the icy cold beach of Graal, all are alive from the inside out. A Life could hardly be further from the precise, cool and hard output of machines - it's a joyous celebration of humanity with all its artistry, thrills and imperfection. The result is a record full of hymns to what makes us human - and that stands untouchable and all on its own.
