Out and about with Almdudler: Hochalm
The area around the Sylvensteinspeicher reservoir near Lenggries not only offers impressive lake views, but also some beautiful hikes. The tour to the Hochalm with its long, grassy summit plateau is highly recommended. This is the perfect place to relax after the ascent with a refreshing Almdudler and a tasty snack.
The Hochalm is located at 1428 meters above the Sylvensten reservoir. The 670 vertical meters to the summit are on a moderate trail, which repeatedly offers amazing views of the Karwendel. Important to know before you set off: The Hochalm is not catered, so take plenty of snacks, water and Almdudler with you. However, you will only meet a few other hikers along the way. And the odd lizard will sometimes dart through your field of vision.
From the Sylvensteinspeicher See parking lot to the Hochalm
Once you have mastered the approach to the Slyvensteinspeicher See parking lot, look out for the signs in the direction of "Hochalm". The first few meters are steeply uphill, but the path is really beautiful from the start. A small stream flows to the left of the path, which repeatedly comes together in larger pools. This is a great place to cool off your feet on the way back or to go for a swim.
After a few minutes, the route leads you further into a mountain forest and the going is much more leisurely and shady. Enjoy it, because the forest leads into a large clearing where you follow the path across the meadow uphill to the left. At this point of the tour, it becomes a little steeper again for a short time, but the summit is not far away. The last signposts lead you left into the forest and from there to the grassy summit ridge of the Hochalm.
Find a nice spot - unfortunately there is not much shade here - and treat yourself to a hearty snack. Once you've fortified yourself, be sure to explore the plateau and the view of the Karwendel and the Sylvenstein reservoir. Perhaps you will recognize one or two of the surrounding mountain peaks. With a bottle of refreshing alpine herbal lemonade in your hand, this will certainly work better. Once you've had your fill, drunk and eaten, set off on the descent. The route is the same as the ascent.
If you still haven't had enough when you reach the parking lot below, stop off at the Sylvenstein reservoir on the way back. So that you are equipped with a little knowledge: the reservoir is two kilometers wide, seven kilometers long and holds 124.3 million cubic meters of water. The reason for building the reservoir was both to ensure a constant water level in the Isar and to protect the region from flooding.
