Beethoven Cycle II

It all started by chance. In 2018, the Academy of St Martin in the Fields wanted to perform all five of Ludwig van Beethoven's piano concertos in Berlin with piano legend Murray Perahia. Perahia fell ill and Jan Lisiecki stepped in. And the spark ignited: The unexpected collaboration delighted not only those involved, but also the Berlin audience - and the listeners of the spontaneously produced live album of the concerts. No wonder that the plan to repeat the joint Beethoven journey - and with more preparation time - soon emerged. Now the time has come: Jan Lisiecki and the Academy of St Martin in the Fields will perform all of Beethoven's piano concertos on three evenings at the WDK. On the second evening, the program includes Concertos Nos. 2 and 4, which clearly show how Beethoven's style developed from the model of Mozart to his very own artistic expression.
