Alreadymade

In 2004, a urinal was voted the most influential work of modern art. The famous artist and provocateur Marcel Duchamp claimed to have created the work "Fountain" - or rather: he bought a mass product and signed it. But according to some, the lesser-known, flamboyant Dada artist Baroness Elsa von Freytag-Loringhoven should be recognized for turning this much-discussed porcelain pisspot into art. Filmmaker Visser tells the absurd story of this iconic work, of which it is not certain whether the original still exists. A search for the truth and a reflection on what makes art art.

The screening on October 12and the subsequent Q&A session will take place at the Berlinische Galerie. As a place where art meets art, we are also pleased to present a live performance by Valerie Renay. She is a French-Caribbean performer and musician who lives in Berlin.
