BRIT PURWIN AWARDED THE PUCK FOR BEST UP-AND-COMING ACTRESS 2022
The real life story of Frenchwoman Anne Beaumanoir. The work, which won the 2020 German Book Prize, deliberately places a woman at the center of a literary form that is usually reserved for male heroes.
Anne, known as Annette, was born in Brittany in 1923. During the Nazi occupation of France, Annette joins the Resistance. At the end of the 1950s, she joins the Algerians' fight for freedom against colonial France, has to flee France and leaves her family behind for an indefinite period. Her biography is rich in "big history", and that means: rich in small decisions with a big impact. What drives a person to join the resistance? What is worth fighting for? What sacrifices does such a life demand?
