Even 35 years after the end of the GDR, the Palace of the Republic remains the symbol of the profound upheavals of German reunification. No other building embodies the social, political and cultural transformations of this period so emphatically. The Humboldt Forum invites you to visit the Palast der Republik as part of the annual focus "Hin und weg. The Palace of the Republic is Present invites you to the last theme day Auf Wiedersehen, Palast - Vom Abbruch und Aufbruch and takes a different look at places and people who are still dealing with the legacy of the Peaceful Revolution today.

The events on February 15 and 16 at the Humboldt Forum will take a look at places and social relationships where the legacy of the GDR and the reunification period is still alive. In her work KUBA ORANGEN , Viviana Medina sheds light on the lives of Cuban contract workers who came to the GDR from the 1960s onwards and reveals the legacy left behind by the state's cultural and labor policies. The performance Names We Carry by Michikazu Matsune shows how the social and economic upheavals of the post-reunification period are reflected in the biographies and names of people in the East German province of Bitterfeld-Wolfen.

In the foyer of the Humboldt Forum, the results of the symposium Gefährlich gefährdet - Neuaneignung von Orten mit DDR Geschichte, which takes place on February 13 and 14 in the Humboldt Forum, will be presented on stage. Afterwards, the audience can talk to experts in Palast Treffs who will report on places that are being repurposed and are sometimes threatened by demolition or a lack of funding.

Throughout the day, the foyer will be a place for music, science and art: on Sunday, Kurt Schwitters' Ursonate will be played and DJ Yuriy Gurzhy will create a special atmosphere with his music. In addition, a reading from the guest book of the Palace of the Republic exhibition will show how the public has responded to the theming of the Palace in the Humboldt Forum in recent months.

The last theme day in the context of the thematic focus "There and Away. The Palace of the Republic is Present brings together topics and people who are actively shaping and preserving the legacy of the GDR. All events offer the opportunity to deal with the challenges associated with maintaining and passing on the legacy of the GDR.
