Bacao Rhythm & Steel Band, the mysterious steel pan band from Hamburg, Germany has gained a worldwide cult following. With a string of classic 7-inches and three critically acclaimed albums, they have set the bar high for themselves.

On their fourth album BRSB, Bacao are back with more of the same, but more of the same is inherently different for them. They cover songs that range from mega hits to underground tunes, with their unique approach harking back to the traditional steel pans of Trinidad and Tobago.Part of the appeal of a new album from the Bacao Rhythm & Steel Band is finding out what covers are and what original tunes they've come up with - this album is full of standout originals. The album's opener, "In The Crosshairs", is a rough and tough mid-tempo head-nodder, while both "Grilled" and "Treasure Quest" move forward with strong African funk influences. Bacao goes deep with "Hazy Memories", which is a bass-heavy slow burner that wanders between hypnosis and hype. All of these original compositions are proof that the term "cover band" is a shoe-in that could never fit Bacao. But in the tradition of steel pan music, they do a huge amount of covers.This time there's a big West Coast hip hop influence with covers of Game & 50 Cent's "How We Do", Dr. Dre & Snoop Dogg's "Nuthin But A G Thang" and Tupac's 'Got My Mind Made Up' all taking on a new energy. Bacao adds another certified dance floor filler to theirs with their cover of Claudja Barry's disco classic 'Love For The Sake Of Love', which they turn into a dub affair, even changing the title to 'Love For The Sake Of Dub'. From the contemporary smash hit department of hop-hop, they cover Drake's "Hotline Bling" and 'Love$ick' by Mura Masa & A$AP Rocky. Most unexpected is 'Stranger Things Theme', where they take the synth-heavy theme song from the hit show and turn it into an even more hypnotic tune than the original.By the time BRSB is done, Bacao has taken the listener on a journey that features a variety of energies, tempos and moods, while keeping everything under one roof. Despite all of this, these songs are alive and well, and they will be taken out of the context of this album and sewn into DJ sets around the globe for many years to come.
