Jazz and bebop at the Bauhaus

To round off the bauhaus music festival, the Bauhaus band will be playing, following the historical model and coming together especially for "Bauhaus Music". Under the direction of Karl-Heinz Steffens, there will be danceable jazz and bebop, inspired by Stefan Wolpe and his many connections to the New York music scene of the 1940s and 1950s. Later jazz greats such as Gil Evans and John Carisi were among his students. Wolpe also founded the "Contemporary Music School", where composition was taught in the style of Bauhaus pedagogy.

The motto of this year's bauhaus music festival is FREEDOM and is made possible by the Capital City Cultural Fund. A total of five concerts will take place over three days at two venues, the temporary bauhaus-archiv and the church/Villa St. Elisabeth.

Final concert by the Bauhaus band - Jazz and Bebop at the Bauhaus

The bauhaus music festival concludes with a concert by the Bauhaus Orchestra which - like its historic namesake - will gather for a special performance at the "Bauhaus Music" festival. Conductor Karl-Heinz Steffens presents danceable jazz and bebop, inspired by Stefan Wolpe and his diverse contacts in the New York music scene of the 1940s and 1950s. His pupils included such jazz greats as Gil Evans and John Carisi. Wolpe is credited with founding the "Contemporary Music School" which taught composition based on the pedagogical methods of the Bauhaus.
