Imagine that: Burna Boy, the monumental pop star of the African continent, who fills the biggest halls in this country even without much airplay, hears the first radio single by Ghanaian artist Black Sherif and asks for a feature for the remix. This little anecdote already tells you a lot about the breakthrough qualities of Blacko, as fans affectionately call the singer and rapper born Mohammed Ismail Sherif in 2002. It shows how Black Sherif has taken the entire West Coast of Africa by storm with his own mixture of old (high-life & reggae) and new (drill & rap). And this is despite the fact that he does not indulge in the omnipresent Afrobeats sound of the moment, but goes his own way. This also includes the fact that he switches easily and nimbly between English and the Ghanaian Twi when he sings and raps his lines. What also sets him apart from others: instead of playing hard to get, he always shows his softer side. "I always want to be 100 percent vulnerable," he says, making him the voice of a generation.
Black Sherif also has a very special connection to Berlin: his songs "First Sermon" and "Second Sermon", which he recorded together with Burna Boy, were produced by Berlin producer Ghanaian Stallion.
