"Come together "

For queer people from Warsaw and Düsseldorf

One focus of Warsaw Week 2024 is on encounters between the citizens of the two cities. At the "Come together", the LGBTIQ+ communities in Düsseldorf and Warsaw and interested parties can exchange ideas at the Franzmann youth culture café. We are inviting Julia Kata and Dr. Jakub Urbanik as special guests from Warsaw. Julia Kata has been working with the transgender and non-binary community for over a decade, Urbanik sees himself as a legal activist and has participated in a number of strategic processes focusing on LGBTQ* rights. The two will report on the current situation for LGBTIQ+ in Warsaw and Poland as well as on queer organizations and projects in Warsaw. Afterwards, there will be an opportunity for questions and discussion. Catering will be provided and admission is free.

Jakub Urbanik, born in Warsaw in 1975, is a Polish legal historian and, among other things, a university professor at the Faculty of Law and Administration at the University of Warsaw. Urbanik sees himself as a legal activist and has taken part in a number of strategic processes focusing on LGBTQ* rights. He is also the chairman of the advisory board of the Right Not Out Fund at the Love Not Out Association.

Julia Kata is a psychologist who is training to become a mediator. She has been working with the transgender and non-binary community for over a decade. She conducts trainings on trans rights and issues as well as inclusive language for educational institutions, businesses, healthcare professionals and students. Since February 2022, she has been supporting refugees using the services of the Lambda Warszawa Association's LGBTQIAP Refugee Center as an expert on trans and non-binary cases.
