comic relief is an uplifting element coming into a tragic or tense situation. bringing in a moment of contrast and distraction from the seriousness of the scene. it is a pattern happening in literature and film, enacted by humorous characters like chandler from the sit-com friends. in tough times like these, we all need a comic relief from time to time. with his recent EP, david bay is trying to create such a moment of escape.

all songs on "comic relief EP" capture an organic, yet modern approach to indie-, disco- and house-music. and the idea to combine the two worlds where david is rooted: growing up playing in an indie-band and running a disco-house-label. after two edit-EPs and a collection of singles with a classic instrumentation and songwriting, this release is bringing it all together - music that sounds a lot like indie, but with a house-beat.

the focus-track "<3 beat" starts off with cinematic soundscapes evolving into pumping bass and drums reminiscing the indietronic vibes of LCD Soundsystem. followed by lush, melancholic falsetto vocals and soothing keys, the song slowly levitates and then strips down again. it is about how sometimes, you're fully aware a person is playing you and still - you're sticking around.

with the likes of solomun, purple disco machine, sg lewis and many more david bay is completing his second original EP "comic relief" on the 15th of december. it is, of course, to be released on his on imprint, zissou records.

from the very start the project was an open rehearsal. trying to find a voice and building a sonic identity around it is a neverending process. so why wouldn't you be releasing music along the way?

This pattern can also be found in literature and film and in humorous characters such as Chandler from the sitcom "Friends". Especially in difficult times like these, we all long for comic relief from time to time. David Bay tries to create just such a moment of escape with his new EP.

The songs on the "Comic Relief EP" combine an organic yet modern approach to indie, disco and house music. David combines the two worlds in which he is rooted: growing up in an indie band and at the same time running a disco house label. After two edit EPs and a collection of singles with classic instrumentation and songwriting, this release brings it all together - music that sounds strongly indie, but with a pulsating house beat.

Accompanied by opulent, melancholic vocals and soothing keys, the song slowly floats upwards, only to gently sink back down again. The content is about sometimes consciously knowing that you're being deceived, but sticking with it anyway.

David Bay is releasing his second Originals EP "comic relief" on December 15th, which will of course be released on his own label, Zissou Records.
