DELVING + IRON JINN

DELVING is a new project by Nick DiSalvo, who is best known as the frontman of heavy rock band "Elder". "Hirschbrunnen", his debut album, draws from a wide range of influences and sounds ranging from psychedelic and krautrock to early electronic and ambient music, showcasing the evocative melodies and songwriting he has become known for.

"I'm an almost obsessive songwriter, working on my music every day and amassing a huge collection of song fragments and ideas that often don't get the attention I'd like because of the time I spend with my main band," he says. "Thanks" to this pandemic, I've had a lot of time to revisit some of the songs I've written over the last few years and finally make an album that I've always told myself I would make.

I've been obsessed with home recording since my earliest moments as a musician, begging my parents for a Tascam 4-track tape recorder for Christmas when I was 12 and making my own albums. DELVING is a continuation of that creative spirit: experimenting on my own, forgetting bands, fans and expectations and making the music I feel like making.

"Hirschbrunnen" is the colloquial name of a large fountain that dominates a large green space near where I live. It was strange for me to see my world, which normally consists of lots of travel and external stimuli, reduced to one city, one district, one block for so long. As frustrating as it is, you might find inspiration and surprising beauty in your everyday surroundings that you would have otherwise ignored. Just as all the music I make is influenced by my experiences, "Hirschbrunnen" is a product of this unique and strange time in which we are all forced to delve deeper into our own thoughts." IRON JINN are Oeds Beydals ("The Devil's Blood"/"Molassess"/"De Death Alley"), Wout Kemkens ("Shaking Godspeed"/"De Niemanders"), Bob Hogenelst ("Birth of Joy"/"Molassess") and Gerben Bielderman ("Pauw") and their debut album on Stickman Records (April 21, 2023) is a raging album that follows the logic of a dream; none. The album release party took place at Roadburn Festival 2023 in a sold-out Green Room, a week later the band played at Desertfest London and Sonic Whip Festival, followed by their own club shows. In the meantime, the first album reviews have also arrived and Rockhard Magazine, OOR Magazine, Visions Magazine, Aardschok Magazine and others have praised the "ambitious debut". "Iron Jinn" is an album on the edge of reality, fantasy and dream, but triggered by real life events. The writing process began in the midst of cultural prohibition in May 2020, so the music and lyrical themes are certainly influenced by the hypnotic state of that moment. How the collective consciousness was taken over by a story. How opinions and paradigms can be quickly influenced and shaped. How the lack of meaningful social interactions, feelings of anxiety and hunger for a grand solution to a problem can drive people into isolation or cult-like devotion (or both). All of this has come to the surface more than ever in recent years, and songwriters Oeds Beydals and Wout Kemkens have taken it all and turned it into a work of art that hopefully reflects, as well as celebrates, the human spirit.
