Based on Edgar Hilsenrath's romantic grotesque
NOMINATED FOR THE KÖLNER THEATERPREIS 2016
Edgar Hilsenrath's work adopts a disturbing narrative perspective. Max Schulz, a trained hairdresser, makes a career in the SS in the 1930s. As a guard at a concentration camp, he kills his Jewish school friend Itzig Finkelstein and his entire family with his own hand. In the post-war period, he assumed Itzig's identity in order to escape persecution and emigrated to Palestine. Max-Itzig, the mass murderer, becomes an underground fighter for the state of Israel and the respected owner of a hairdressing salon.
